Amazon opens first checkout store outside of the US with the new Amazon Fresh website in London, UK.

The store uses the company’s Just Walk Out technology, which allows customers to choose items from the shelves and take them out of the store without having to stop and pay the cashier, as invoices are processed automatically, but this requires customers to scan synchronously with their Amazon app to enter.

The launch marks a major expansion of the Amazon cashless stores initiative, which uses cameras to track shoppers and their purchases, with Amazon’s first Go store in Seattle in 2016, according to “The Verge,” and as seen by “Al Arabiya.net.”

There are now more than 20 Amazon Go stores across the United States, and the initiative has grown even further over the past year, with a larger grocery store called Amazon Go Grocery.

Amazon said its London store will stock a range of groceries and fresh foods, in addition to hot foods, which will be sold under the “By Amazon” label.

The store opened at 7 a.m. Thursday, and will open until 11 p.m., seven days a week, with an area of 2,500 square feet.

And unlike its branches in the United States, Amazon in the UK has relied on its Amazon Fresh brand for its cashless store, instead of Amazon Go.

Due to the pandemic, the company has implemented a series of hygiene-focused measures in the store. Maximum occupancy is 20 to allow social distancing, and PPE and disposable gloves are available at the store entrance.
