The Mercy Society for Animal Welfare presented a set of solutions to eliminate the phenomenon of stray dogs, after the recent attacks of these dogs on citizens, the most recent of which was a child in the suburb of Al-Wasila in Riyadh.
Badr Al-Tarif, General Supervisor of the Society, said that stray animal control is not new, but is present at all times and in all places, and we must benefit from the experiences of other countries, as there are to those who are less than us. with abilities and managed to control stray animals.
Al-Tarif added, in his interview with the program “Ya Hala” on the channel “Rotana Khalijia”, that the Dutch experience of combating this phenomenon is one of the most successful experiences. It was based on sterilizing dogs, then numbering them, and increasing community awareness of the phenomenon.
He pointed out that the planned sterilization is the castration of male dogs and the removal of the uterus of females to prevent them from reproducing, indicating that this method is known worldwide and applied in several countries, as for the numbering, it is intended to put plastic bands or markings on the ears of animals to distinguish them and find out if this dog can be treated, or avoided.
He explained that releasing dogs after neutering is not harmful, but rather important in creating an environmental balance, and that the sterilization process affects the dog’s health and aggressive behavior.
And that one of the solutions that can be provided is also to put pallets of dog food outside the urban area, as their aggressive behavior is caused by foraging, as well as the speed in removing waste and not to stay all day not to do it. to attract these animals.
