Syrian newspaper Al-Watan said artist Mayada Bassilis died yesterday, Wednesday, at the age of 54, from a battle with cancer.

The Syrian Ministry of Information mourned the artist Mayada Basilis, who died yesterday.

The late actress’s husband, musician Samir Kouifati, confirmed a few weeks ago that she had cancer.

Syrian composer Samir Kouifati said his wife Mayada Basilis was suffering from cancer, after news recently emerged that she was suffering from a critical health condition.

Basilis was born in Aleppo in 1967 and began her artistic career at the age of nine, when she released 14 albums, starting with “Katili Al Hajj”.

And she won the gold award for best Arabic song in 1999 for the song “Kadhdak Helou”.

During her artistic career, the late woman won numerous local and Arab awards, including three times the ornina d’or, the first prize of the Casablanca Arab Music Festival, the gold prize for the best video song , gold at the Cairo Festival, and others.
