The Libyan army has decided to allow Turkish-flagged merchant ships and vessels to enter the eastern ports of the country under its control, after a hiatus of about two years, due to Turkish interventions in Libya.
Libyan Army Naval Chief of Staff Major General Faraj al-Mahdawi told Al-Arabiya.net on Thursday that the move was made in the Libyan interest to ease the burden. and the suffering of the Libyan merchants who were paying a lot of money to get goods from the ports of the western regions, thus reducing the prices People have to import goods into Libya before the beginning of the month of Ramadan, which is experiencing an increase in the consumption.
Turks acquire shipping licenses
He also added that the first Turkish ship will arrive at the port of Benghazi on March 25, from Tunisia with Tunisian goods on board, noting that the Turks are now acquiring sea freight licenses to Libya.
The General Command of the Army has authorized the management of ports and maritime transport to embark Turkish-flagged merchant vessels to ports in the eastern region, in accordance with the procedures and legislation followed in this regard.
This comes against the background of the high degree of dissatisfaction among Libyan traders in the eastern region over the increased shipping costs from ports in the western region due to the levy imposed by the Turkish company “SCK” responsible for managing these ports and supervising. the control of goods entering Libya and the granting of permits to enter it according to an agreement with the government of national accord, in exchange for the release of their goods, which has led to an increase in consumer prices and foodstuffs.
