After the two Facebook apps, WhatsApp and Instagram, were suddenly shut down for minutes across the world, they returned to service on Friday night.

Facebook revealed that it had overcome a technical glitch after more than a million users worldwide complained of malfunctions in the company’s Instagram app, adding that the issue also affected its WhatsApp services and Messenger in a number of countries.

In turn, a spokesperson for the company said it had successfully fixed the bug that was blocking access to its services.

And users around the world suffered from the suspension of services of the most popular messaging app, and the pictures app, for almost 30 minutes.

Almost a million users

The “Downdetector” website also said that the services of Facebook’s platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, have been disrupted for thousands of users today.

The site showed that nearly one million users reported issues using Instagram, while around 20 thousand reported issues with WhatsApp.

Site Downdetector monitors crashes by compiling case reports from multiple sources. More users may have experienced service outages.
