Al-Marsad Journal: Cyber security experts have warned Android users about the safety of apps they download from the “Google Play” store and urged them to pay attention to those that ask for too many permissions.
Money is stolen from the device
UK site “Express” reported this week how Google recently blocked 10 apps from the “Google Play” store, which were found to be loaded with malware that could steal money from the victim’s device.
And CyberNews found that more than a third (36%) of the apps it analyzed wanted to use an Android device’s camera.
Take photos and videos
Enabling this permission can have adverse effects if the attacker detects this and then uses the camera to take photos and record videos.
The survey also found that a third of the most popular Android apps want to track a user’s location, while one in five want to record the user’s phone conversations. While one in ten (8%) of the most popular Android apps on the Google Play Store ask for permission to make calls directly to the user’s phone contacts.
How to avoid this?
Experts have cautioned against apps that require significant data access because they allow many electronic crimes to occur.
And the site advised to avoid apps that ask for a lot of permissions, and those that have developers’ signatures you haven’t heard of.
