Isolation of Arabs under Ottoman rule

Many European and Arab historians believe that one of the main reasons for the backwardness of the Arab world today is mainly due to the state of political, economic and cultural isolation imposed by the Ottomans for a period of more than three centuries in the Arab world, and we do not want to put here all the consequences of our backwardness and our stagnation on the Ottomans. We must keep in mind the period of Ottoman rule, for a period of three centuries of complete isolation from the external environment is enough to bring down the strongest, most advanced and learned nations and civilizations, because Islamic civilization has stagnated since it fell under the control of the Turks, and this impasse further ravaged the course of Arab life for many centuries after the disappearance of their former empire.

Isolation and retirement have been part of the defining elements in the formation of the Turkish personality since his appearance on the political scene during the Abbasid era and then in the Seljuk state. The Turks are committed to isolating themselves in their military barracks without mixing with the peoples of the open countries, which explains the weakness of the scientific, literary and cultural balance of the Turks compared to other peoples, including the Arab civilization. of Andalusia, which is one of the most wonderful civilizations in the history of mankind.

From the beginning of its reign over the Arab Levant, the Ottoman Empire sought to isolate it from the outside world and from Europe in particular, and to surround it economically and militarily until it succeeded in imposing a complete ban on any vessel entering the Red Sea. , leading to an economic recession in the ports of the Red Sea, in addition to the loss of many routes. The former trading power that linked the countries of the Arab Mashreq to economic vitality, and the suffering of this region has been increased by the great neglect of the central authority in Istanbul for the Arab world, as the state was busy spending huge sums of money in successive wars and the continuing invasion, preventing it from undertaking a comprehensive reform movement at home.

In the light of these difficult political and economic conditions, the Arabs until the 19th century, and with all the modernization and development movements in Europe, lived in terrible cultural isolation, and did not know the extent of the scientific progress made by the Europeans, who robbed the Arabs of the opportunity to contribute to scientific and intellectual progress, which was one of the results of the domination of the Ottomans and their policies. Secularism is that the Arab peoples came under the rule of the Ottomans at a time considered to be one of their most backward and degenerate eras, during which their scientific, literary and intellectual production came to a halt, and Islamic civilization has entered an era of dark age which is still suffering the consequences.

The Ottoman Empire was not a state of advanced scientific and intellectual achievements, and the thought that dominated it was medieval, paid no attention to the scientific and cultural side, as much as it concerned the war side and the establishment of the Army. barracks, so that the Ottoman mentality was not compatible with the spirit and the demands of the modern era, and the Arabs lived under this mentality in their capacity. (Colonial peoples) lack strength, power, wealth and educational opportunities, and all of this was the prerogative of the Turks, which further weakens the creative capacities of the Arabs, and makes them further backward, ignoring that they had lost all the causes of development and kept pace with the advanced nations and ignored the reality of the collapse of the foundations of their civilization.

After the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the liberation of the Arabs, and after the influence of European countries penetrated the Arab world, the Arabs woke up from their long slumber which lasted three centuries, to the fact that their civilization pioneer had been shaken. unprecedented, if not completely collapsed, it was therefore the campaign of France that came to Egypt, then to the Levant, as a civilizational shock, during which the Arabs woke up to the reality of backwardness and ignorance in which they live, and have brought them to plunge into a historical and civilizational crisis that they could not break with its suffocating suffocation. This civilizational shock to which the Arabs were subjected after waking up from the long sleep imposed on them by the backward reign of the Ottomans, led them to cease to exercise a pioneering role in the procession of civilization, so they reached the point of being confined. to their local culture or exercised the role of passive consumer of the products of the main Western civilization which expresses the spirit of the modern era.

The Arab countries were freed from the influence of Ottoman colonialism, but they saw no signs of rebirth or civilization, which reflects the historical truth, namely that the Ottomans are just invaders and colonizers who have occupied the Arab countries for four centuries, just like the French, British and Italian colonialists, they exhausted the wealth of the Arabs and inherited weakness and backwardness.
