State Security Court rejected defense team’s request for the presence of Princes Hamza, Ali, Hashem and other witnesses to testify in the sedition case, according to the accused’s lawyer , Basem Awadallah.
Defense attorney in the Jordan “sedition” case said the military court on Thursday rejected the defense’s request to summon Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein to testify in the case in which a former relative of the royal family is accused of having destabilized the country.

The lawyer for the former head of the Jordanian royal court, Basem Awadallah, the first accused in the “sedition case”, announced on Wednesday that he would request the presence of Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein, the former crown prince, to testify at the fourth session held by the Jordanian State Security Court, during which the two defendants are on trial, Awadallah and Sharif Hassan bin Zaid is a friend of Prince Hamzah and an independent member of the royal family.
25 witnesses, including former ministers and supervisors
Lawyer Muhammad Afif said the defense list includes the names of 25 witnesses, including former ministers and supervisors, in addition to a number of princes, led by Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein.
He added that they also included Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh, two princes, a minister and a number of royals.
He explained that the court will respond to the defense’s request in a session Thursday, regarding approval to allow Prince Hamzah to appear as a witness.
The State Security Court is holding the hearings of the case “in secret”, and only defense lawyers are allowed to attend, in a context of anticipation in popular circles of the evolution of the case, in which accusations of destabilizing the security and stability of the country and undermining the political regime of Awadallah and Bin Zaid.
The charges against the defendants, Basem Awadallah and Sharif Hassan Zaid, include inciting to undermine the Kingdom’s political system and commission of acts threatening public safety and sowing sedition, both of whom pleaded their innocence. Both counts carry a sentence of 30 years in prison.
