Microsoft suddenly changed the blue screen of death known as BSoD and made it black in the new Windows 11 operating system, after more than 30 years of service.

Although this decision has not been officially confirmed by Microsoft, images have been published of the screen that appears when the operating system crashes and becomes unable to function, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.

In addition to changing the BSoD screen, reports have indicated that Windows 11 will now include a new “Start” button with Android apps on the desktop for the first time.

It’s unclear why Microsoft changed the screen color from blue to black, and the company has yet to comment on the change.

A Microsoft spokesperson said the company has nothing to share at this time.

The BSoD display was released with Windows 3 in 1990, and Microsoft made a number of incremental changes, but it has remained blue to this day.

The screen appears on the interface of Windows systems after the computer stops working or forcibly restarting, as its appearance is evidence of a system fault, whether it is physical hardware or software.

The color change is the first major change Microsoft made to the BSoD display since it added QR codes to Windows 10 in 2016. The company also added a sad face emoji in Windows 8 in 2012.

Many Microsoft users have spoken out about the new change because one person described it as a “blue screen in dark mode” while another scoffed, saying, “The beige would have looked better.”

Microsoft unveiled Windows 11 for desktops and laptops on June 24, with release slated for late 2021, and it is the company’s first major operating system since Windows 10 released in 2015.

Windows 10 users will get a free upgrade until mid-2022.

Many users are waiting for the new system to launch to see what is in it, amid occasional leaks about these features.
