On the occasion of the start of the countdown of the last 500 days before the tournament; Al-Khater said: “We are on the eve of the championship and we are only 500 days from the whistle. For more than 10 years, we have been preparing this moment which will see the organization of the biggest sports tournament in the history of the Middle East. The closer we get to that moment, the more excitement and excitement there is. “
Al-Khater pointed out that the next edition of the World Cup is the closest in modern history to the World Cup, as the eight stadiums are no more than 50 km from downtown Doha, which means short travel times via the Doha metro. or the modern road network.
This feature will give fans, as well as players and administrators, the ability to stay in one place throughout the tournament, making the upcoming World Cup a football festival unprecedented in previous versions, thanks to the proximity of the fans to the stadiums, fan zones and tourist attractions of the country, which will ensure that they are at the heart of the action from start to finish. Al-Khater added: “The proximity of distances is one of the most important advantages of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. For his part, Engineer Yasser Al-Jammal, head of the operations office and deputy head of the technical projects office at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Inheritance, confirmed that Qatar has completed 95% of infrastructure projects. for the World Cup, and is preparing to announce the completion of all stages of the tournament by the end of this year. El-Gamal added: “We have been doing our best since 2011 to put in place the necessary infrastructure and to prepare well for the organization of the tournament. If we look at the modern metro, the airport, the highway extension works and other advanced infrastructure projects; We will know that we are on the right track. Regarding the progress of work in the Qatar 2022 stadiums, El-Gamal continued: “Work has been completed on five stadiums, the other three to be announced shortly, and six World Cup stadiums will host the FIFA Arab Cup. Qatar 2021 ™ November and December next.
The Arab Cup begins about a year before the World Cup, with the participation of 16 Arab teams. The tournament will be the ideal opportunity to test the preparations and the functioning of the World Cup, and to underline the great passion of the peoples of the region for football.
On the importance of Qatar hosting the Arab Cup at the end of this year, Al-Khater said: “The Arab Cup is an important tournament for us as the Arab teams will meet for the first time under the aegis of the International Football Association. (FIFA). The tournament will give us a great opportunity to experience the new stadiums and prepare for the 2022 World Cup. ”
On the legacy that the tournament will leave, especially with regard to the stadiums, Al-Khater concluded: “Since the start of the preparations for the World Cup, the legacy is at the forefront of our concerns, and we have put early inheritance plans. stadium design phase. Some stadiums will be reduced in capacity and seats will be given to other countries to help them develop their infrastructure, some will be reused for other purposes, and some will be completely dismantled and parts will be used to establish facilities at the inside and outside Qatar.
It should be noted that the competitions of the twenty-second edition of the World Cup will start on November 21, 2022, where the Qatari team, Asian champions, will play the opening match at the Al Bayt stadium with its amazing design, which can accommodate 60,000 fans in the city of Al Khor, north of the capital Doha, and the curtain will fall on the World Cup in the Lusail stadium gathered 80,000 fans on December 18, 2022, coinciding with the celebrations of the Qatar national day.
