Google Apps with Android 12 Home Screens

[ad_1]

Each app unlocked on Android 12 comes with a launch animation for “activation for a more consistent and fun experience”. One aspect of this is an animated icon on the Home screen, with Drive being the first Google app to support Android 12.

Updated on 7/12Google Duo version 144.0 for Android displays the Home screen.

Duo animation begins with the outline of the app icon. The blue shape then appears in the center and expands outward, unlike workspace apps where the color fills (outside ->) from the perimeter.

The shape of the video player begins as a rounded rectangle with a slight bulge in a triangular “lens”. As it grows, it lengthens before reaching the desired symbol.

Update 7/10: When Google first announced the Splash Screen API with Android 12 DP3 in April, it used Google Gmail – which already has live animation – as an example. From version 2021.06.13.x of Gmail for Android.

In practice, the application opens and loads in the default inbox before the “m” file fills the entire position. This new update is still ongoing through the Play Store.

Meanwhile, the standalone Google Meet app has also been updated in recent weeks with the mobile home screen on Android 12 now widely available.

Source 6/27: This cranky aspect of Android 12 starts when you click on an app. The app will expand from its place on the Home screen (or web screen) until it occupies all four corners of the screen. When you open an app that you haven’t played in a while (cold or warm boot), you are greeted with the opening screen which displays the icon. As such, users no longer experience a delay when returning to the app they just opened (quick start).

Developers can customize the logo that appears, including the option to use an animated icon. Another interesting aspect is how the animations “can be of unlimited duration”, but Google recommends keeping it at 1000 milliseconds. Developers can find the full details of the FM application.

Developers have long been able to design their own custom home screens (e.g. YouTube TV), but Android 12 makes it easy for any app to do this as part of the unlock experience.

The first Google application to adopt this animation is Drive. You see for the first time the double-sided form of an empty blank drive. Once the opening screen takes up the entire screen, the colors green, yellow, red, blue, dark blue, and green slide out of the edge.

Version 2.21.222.06.40 is widely deployed today and the animated opening screen is live for all Android 12 users. It does not appear in previous versions of the operating system.
