The “Only My Health” website said that a recent study revealed 6 myths about sleep and nap cycles that can affect the health of the body, namely:
1 – sleep 6 hours
Many believe that adults get 6 hours of sleep without affecting their health. Most workers take short naps because they get up late. But it affects their health later in life.
As reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the diversity of sleep patterns affects a person’s memory and health. It increases the risk of obesity and diabetes, and therefore 8 hours of sleep is mandatory for everyone.
2- Watching television allows you to relax before going to bed.
It is an unhealthy habit for people to spend their time watching television for entertainment and relaxation. Because any electronic item that emits a screen of blue light affects a person’s health and sleep.
3- Take naps at irregular times that do not affect your health
It’s important to take a nap at a specific time between periods, for example, if you feel drowsy in the afternoon, it’s best to take a half-hour nap.
4- Lying on the bed with your eyes closed is equivalent to sleeping
Replacing naps with your eyes closed can be harmful to your health because the brain and heart work differently during sleep and wakefulness and the body reacts and works at a different rate, which also affects the work of the lungs, kidneys and of the heart.
5- Alcohol before bed will improve the nap
Drinking large amounts of alcohol before bed is dangerous and can cause shortness of breath and serious health problems.
6- Your brain can adapt to your sleeping habits and nap time
It is a misconception that sleeping for short periods of time improves mental function. In fact, the brain and all parts of the body need proper rest.
Studies conducted at the Department of Mental Health have found that people who lack sleep in adulthood suffer from chronic problems later in life.
