“A strange 3-armed galaxy” .. NASA unveils the first images of Hubble after having resumed all its operations!

After resuming all activities, NASA released the first images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, a group of galaxies, including a rare three-armed spiral galaxy.

The first object, known as ARP-MADORE2115-273, consists of two entangled galaxies 297 million light years from Earth.

Describing the image, NASA wrote: “Astronomers previously thought it was a ‘collision ring’ system due to the frontal merger of two galaxies.”

New observations from Hubble show that the ongoing interaction between galaxies is much more complex, leaving behind a rich network of stars and dusty gas.

The second image, ARP-MADORE0002-503, shows a spiral galaxy 490 million light years from Earth.

Unlike most spiral galaxies, which have even arms, ARP-MADORE0002-503 has three arms with a radius of 163,000 light years, three times the width of the Milky Way.

NASA said the Hubble Telescope’s other primary targets included globular star clusters and auroras on Jupiter.

The US space agency released the images on Monday, much to the delight of star fans, including NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.

“I am delighted to see that Hubble has reconsidered the universe, once again capturing the kind of images that have intrigued and inspired us for decades,” Nelson said in a statement. “This is a time to celebrate the success of a truly dedicated team. Through their efforts, Hubble will continue its 32nd year of discovery and we will continue to learn from the observatory’s transformative vision.

Science operations on Hubble resumed on July 17, after a month in which they were halted due to a technical failure.

Last week, NASA successfully performed a “risky” maneuver to turn Hubble into its backup computer.

The change, which began on July 15, included bringing the Emergency Power Control Unit (PCU) online, as well as the Emergency Control Unit / Scientific Data Coordinator (CU / SDF ) on the other side of the scientific instrument and the control and processing of data. Unit (SI C&DH).

NASA added that other hardware on Hubble has also been switched to other interfaces to connect to SI C&DH backup.

NASA has previously said that switching safely to a backup unit is a “very risky process.”
