Algerian wrestler Fathi Norine has announced his official withdrawal from the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, after the draw for the second round of judo competitions pitted him against an Israeli wrestler.

Algerian judo team coach Ammar Benkhlef said they withdrew from the Olympics for their refusal to normalize with Israel, and support the Palestinian cause.

The draw for judo for the sport of under 73 kg saw the Algerian Fathi Norine face his Sudanese competitor Abdel Latif Mohamed in the first round, and if he wins, he will face an Israeli wrestler in the second round of the championship as part of the activities of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Noreen had previously withdrawn from the world championships after also being drawn by an Israeli wrestler.
