Tesla plans to expand to India, one of the world’s largest emerging auto markets

Elon Musk, CEO of US electric car maker Tesla, said setting up a factory for the company to produce cars in India is very likely, if it can start selling imported cars first.

The California automaker is currently looking to cut import taxes, while studying expansion plans in India, which is one of the world’s largest emerging auto markets, Bloomberg News Agency reported, citing informed sources yesterday.

“Import duties are the highest in the world,” Musk said on Twitter, in response to a question about sales opportunities in India. “In addition, clean energy cars are treated like diesel or gasoline, which does not appear to be entirely in line with India’s climate goals,” he added.

Musk said the company hopes India will offer at least temporary tariff relief for electric cars, and if Tesla can succeed with imported cars, it is very likely that it will set up a factory in India.

Informed sources added yesterday that “Tesla” wrote to India’s transport and industry ministries seeking a reduction in import duties on electric vehicles to 40%, from the current rate, which varies between 60 and 100%.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last week that the company plans to open its battery charging network for cars from other manufacturers later this year.

And the fast-charging network gives a great competitive advantage to the electric car product, as Tesla has more than 25,000 ultra-fast charging units in the world. In contrast, other automakers have forged alliances or invested in charging network start-ups, amid a frantic push to bring new electric cars to market.

“We will be opening up our super-fast charging network to other electric cars later this year,” Musk said on Twitter, adding that “the network will gradually become accessible to other electric cars in all countries,” according to the newspaper, “Al-Iqtisadiah.”

Germany’s transport minister said last month he was trying to persuade Tesla to take a similar step to make it easier for electric vehicle drivers to charge. In the United States, President Joe Biden’s administration last month approved a bipartisan Senate deal to spend $ 1.2 trillion on infrastructure projects, including $ 7.5 billion on vehicle infrastructure electric, which includes battery recharging stations.

U.S. electric car maker Tesla is set to produce a semi-electric truck, according to the Electric website, which covers news on sustainable energy and electric transportation, citing people familiar with the matter.

The production line is ready and the assembly line is in its final stages before production begins, and the company has indicated that this is one of the last stages before production of the truck begins. .
