Moroccan boxer Younes Baala was excluded from the Tokyo Olympics, today Tuesday, after trying to bite the ear of his New Zealand competitor, David Nyika, in the round of 16 of the boxing competition in the category 81- 91 kg.
Baala threw himself at the New Zealander’s ear, holding his arms, but his opponent managed to dodge the attack in the third round.

After a fight dominated by Nyica and winning 5-0, organizers announced that the Moroccan boxer had been disqualified and his result annulled despite his loss.
A statement released by the International Olympic Committee’s Boxing Working Group said Baala “clearly intended to bite his opponent’s ear / face in the third round of the match.”
The statement added that Baala was excluded because of his “unbearable movements during the fight”.
Nika tried to downplay the incident in a post on his account on the ‘Instagram’ site, where he wrote: “The heat of battle can bring out the best and the worst in people. It’s part of sport. .. I have nothing but respect for my opponent, and I can appreciate the frustration he felt. ” .
Bala (22 years old), ranked 17th at the last World Championship (2019).
