Recent data has revealed a record increase in car sales in the Egyptian market during the first half of this year.

According to the report released by the Automobile Market Information Council (AMIC), car sales in Egypt jumped 53% in the first half of 2021 to reach 138,311,000 units, from around 90,395,000 units during the period. corresponding to last year, an increase of about 47,916 thousand vehicles.

This comes despite the continuing recession due to the risks and repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic on all sectors, including the retail and sales sector, while the precautionary measures previously applied by the Egyptian government as part of the fight against the pandemic caused a sharp decrease in demand for cars.

The report found an increase in sales of ‘angel’ passenger cars of 63%, as their sales volume increased in the first half of 2021 to around 101,046,000 units, compared to around 62,171,000 units during the same period. last year, an increase of about 38,875 thousand units.

Sales of trucks in all categories increased by 46% to 25.4 thousand vehicles, against 15.5 thousand. In contrast, sales in the bus sector fell 6.8% to 11.8 thousand, from 12.6 thousand buses.

The data revealed that the Chevrolet brand topped the list of best-selling car brands, having managed to increase its market share to 19%, with a total of 26.2 thousand vehicles sold in the first half of the year. This year.

Nissan cars came in second, with sales of 13.9 thousand vehicles, followed by Toyota cars in third place, with a sales share of around 13.2 thousand cars. And passenger car sales grew 70% last June, reaching 19,054 vehicles.

The council had revealed a record increase in car sales for owners in Egypt during the month of May, with sales increasing 88% on an annual basis to reach 15.2 thousand units in the month, from just 8 thousand. cars the same last month. year.

Sales declined in May by 5% on a monthly basis, from 16,000 units sold during the month of April. Data shows that car sales rose 73% on an annual basis to 21,000 units during the month of May, but fell 5% on a monthly basis, from 22,000 units in April.
