artificial seedingThe National Meteorological Center is preparing to launch the artificial rain project, which aims to seek new sources of water in the Kingdom, at a cost of more than 400 million riyals.

The project aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s water reserves in the face of the scarcity of rains, whose annual rainfall does not exceed 100 milliliters, and will significantly contribute to increasing rainfall by 5 to 20% in the years to come.

The director general of the Research, Development and Innovation department of the Center, Yasser Jalal, said that seeding is one of the techniques to modify the weather, by dispersing environmentally friendly organic materials such as dried snow or snow. sodium chloride.

In an interview with Al Arabiya, Jalal added that the materials used in the technology depend on the types of clouds targeted, as they target places where hot or cold clouds form.

He pointed out that the technology is inexpensive, and thanks to it, the Kingdom will be able to increase the water stock in the dams and also increase the underground stock, thus improving its water security.
