Emirati international photographer Yousef Al-Habashi plans to give his lens a sightseeing adventure to explore the geography of Saudi Arabia, which he describes as “a lush aesthetic environment in the colors of visual creativity.” In an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya.net, he revealed that there is continuous communication with one of the most prestigious scientific buildings in the Kingdom, to soon establish a scientific study visit, which will be in the south of the Kingdom. , depending on the nature of the studies, when the opportunity arises and the restrictions and precautionary measures caused by the Corona outbreak are relaxed.
Youssef, who recently won the “Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid International Photography Prize”, in a photo dossier for this year, made no secret of the difficulties and inconveniences he encountered in producing the image file, explaining that the biggest difficulty in this case required careful examination using magnifying lenses and light microscopes to look for hidden faces that the naked eye cannot perceive or even notice exist in the first place!
Flying animals and humans on the rocks
Al-Habashi said that the main idea of the winning works is the process of showing faces as close to humans as possible, in areas that are no larger than millimeters from the body of certain microorganisms.
The process of perceiving these faces from nothingness is known as “Pareidolia”, which is, according to the popular definition, a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a random stimulus, usually an image or a sound, perceiving a familiar pattern even if there is nothing, such as imagining images of animals in clouds or a human image in rocks and the like.
Scientific documentation and environmental projects
The photos vary between the documentary and scientific aspect, especially since his light work has contributed, according to him, to the service of environmental projects.
He explained, “Much of my work has been used by agencies specializing in agriculture to control agricultural plant pests and to try to educate the general public about these pests and how to fight and control them. A group of my work has also been featured by scientific journals inside and outside the country at different levels, starting with the Le simple level to educate children about the culture and even high level magazines of the Arabic magazine National Geographic.
What is micro-technology?
Micro technology, to which his works belong, has contributed to the transfer of Youssef’s photos to the world through his works covering international magazines and media platforms, considering that his tools for scientific photography depend on the scientific method to uncover the amazing mysteries of creatures that are not captured by the human eye.
He stressed that the competition remains “ongoing” and I find anyone with a different and distinctive point of view, in addition to scientific technology, to be a motivating competitor to continue in this interesting field.
What stands out in Youssef’s clips, from the technical side, is its ability to extract these faces, as it is considered one of the difficult operations for several reasons, as the process of analyzing these faces differs from ‘one person to another, depending on his analysis and view, and even his artistic sensibility, which can make two people standing in front of the work that each sees a different face within the work presented.
He considered Corona’s time to affect his light output as a photographer, both due to the suspension of air traffic and the limited choice of travel destinations for a new photographic adventure, noting that the world’s photography community Everyone has realized the extent of the impact, whether it is a light impact or a deep impact.
He added: “Fortunately, the nature of my production of works does not require me to continually travel to produce them, as most of them take place in the atmosphere of my personal laboratory at home.”
Faces of non-human beings
He added: “In my participation in the group of my works, I have deliberately tried to highlight the faces close to the human, that is, they include the basic elements of the human face, such as eyes, nose and mouth, in the creatures that I have observed, because the nature of these works depends on contiguous Fox technology, and therefore a work consists of a few hundred images, they are combined to produce a unique work with a final result. The participating collection is a selection from a larger collection that will later be revealed in an art gallery.
Youssef, like other photographers, has a lasting message calling for a scientific contemplation of the beauty of small creatures like insects and the like, and he strives to communicate this photographically through his participation in various photographic exhibitions around the country, and seeks to transmit it through its clips to an audience receiving community service.
Youssef plans to hold a special exhibition of his award-winning light works, which includes a selection of his collection-related masterpieces, which have yet to be published or exhibited.
Hidden bears and decryption of the mystery
Describing Youssef as a sniper of beauty, he is the hunter of small creatures, who captures them from the gates of heaven and stalks them in the darkness of the earth. He investigates with his lens the diversity of their creatures, large and small, especially what can be hidden with the naked eye!
He added: “We must savor beauty, whatever it is and wherever it is. Life is full of all that is beautiful. We only have to allow our horizons of consciousness to be. accept first, then experience that aesthetic spectrum. “
Youssef explains his interest in small creatures and insects due to his belief in their importance and the need to contemplate them from a moral point of view and to look at their influential role in the details of our lives. Or it is still waiting to be debunked and revealed to humanity by specialists, researchers and scientists.
He continued, “Any slight disturbance, its consequences and damage will appear later, which will inevitably affect us at some point. Therefore, the message of awareness of the nature and roles of these creatures is a noble message to this. era. “
Despite this, Youssef still has new ideas and visions that he seeks to explore through his lens in these little creatures, and to spread his scientific, cultural and ethical message to future generations, who in turn will complete this journey to the light. the availability of newer technologies that facilitate day-to-day research and exploration.
