Happiness and productivity are mutually related, and each is a condition for the other, so there is no meaning for happiness, if there is no production and giving, and productivity is no ‘not increase, unless happiness and tranquility prevail, and any defect in one of them causes imbalance in the other. But there is a necessary supplement to happiness and productivity, and that is mental health, as it is the third aspect that complements quality of life. in the Emirates, from an early age, by offering this service in its health establishments, as a necessity for a happier and more productive society, despite the social challenges.
From the reality of its national responsibility, and believing in its awareness-raising role, the “Declaration” launches, from today, a media campaign on all its platforms, in support of the efforts of the State, taking advantage of the need. created by the pandemic, to deal with this global problem.
With the pandemic continuing around the world and the increase in cases with psychological disorders, due to fear of illness, closures, self-quarantine or loss of work and declining income , voices have started to rise to address this issue with greater interest, so the World Health Organization has issued a warning regarding the long-term effects on mental health, calling for action to do so. in the face of these repercussions.
What is worrying now, with the continuation of the pandemic, fears of infection with viral strains, repeated shutdowns and quarantines, increasing damage to economic sectors, or their more reliance on technology, rising unemployment and the ‘increased social isolation, especially for children, increased negative effects on mental health, which is a social and economic burden, and additional health for countries’ economies.
In order to remedy it, reduce its negative effects and diffuse positive energy, it seems an appropriate opportunity to rebuild the health system, to include mental health, through legal reforms that oblige employers to include mental health in insurance policies, like any organic disease, and consider it a fundamental human right.
And the United Arab Emirates, like any country, needs more movement in this direction right now, in a way that improves mental health with professional, family and social stability, in which the laws guarantee this care. . It is true that the costs of this care are high, and exceed treatments for organic diseases, but the return is more global, more feasible and beneficial, and protects society, according to international studies.
In the search for solutions to provide this service, in cooperation with insurance companies, and to enact laws to this effect, public awareness and education campaigns are needed, to get rid of the negative view of the mental illness, whether in the patient, his family or society, and that it is a fact that must be accepted, like any organic illness, not A fault in it, rather the fault is to ignore it, taking into account social sensitivities, which only leads to more losses.
The task is not a luxury, but a necessity, and the pandemic offers an ideal opportunity to break the taboo, to get rid of the culture of shame and to rethink accompanied by will and planning, to overcome challenges and develop solutions, if we want to add a qualitative achievement in the service of man, which is certain in the land of happiness, productivity and prosperity.
