The American space agency NASA announced to have trained the robot dog Boston Dynamics to explore caves on Mars and on the Moon, after having developed within the “BRAILLE” project.
The agency said robots of this type can explore caves of Mars hundreds of feet deep, due to their ability to walk and handle rough terrain without roads or flat surfaces, which makes them more capable. than conventional spacecraft.
Using the Nebula system, scientists can address important points in space missions such as detection, environment and movement.
“These robots pave the way for future missions for humans, providing more information about specific places before humans land on Mars to explore those places, as well as the ability to use them with astronauts,” said Ali Agha, senior researcher at the agency. Jet Propulsion Laboratory and project manager. During missions to aid the exploration of certain terrains or with logistics and many other missions that can make astronaut missions safer and more efficient.
He added: “Boston the Robot Dog is one of the most capable and interactive robots with high level decisions and controls, with the ability to maintain stability over rough and difficult terrain.”
