Samsung has unveiled two new and improved models of foldable phones, as the South Korean industry leader faces stiff competition from Chinese companies in a rapidly growing market.

With this step, the smartphone giant will ignite more competition with its American competitor, Apple.

According to AFP, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 offer smoother designs, better water resistance and a more durable screen. A phone can be ordered from them now, for delivery later this month in the US, Europe and South Korea.

These two new models come at a time when Samsung faces stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers, led by Xiaomi, which ranked second in the market in the second quarter of the year.

The Flip 3, whose screen extends up to 6.7 inches, is offered at a starting price of $ 999, in line with other high-end phones, against $ 1,799 for the Fold 3, including the The screen extends up to 7.6 inches.

“The company is once again expanding the capabilities of foldable smartphones that provide users with the flexibility and versatility needed in our rapidly changing world,” said TM Roh, president of Samsung’s mobile division.

The aim of the Flip 3 is to provide an affordable foldable phone, while the Flip 3 replaces devices that work with large screens and is equipped with a stylus that can be used on the screen.

A recent study by research group Canalys showed that China’s Xiaomi ousted Apple from number two in the global smartphone market, a market plagued by turmoil due to chip supply shortages and lockdown measures that have affected consumers.

This study found that global smartphone sales increased 12% and South Korean Samsung maintained the market lead with 19% share.

The Chinese Xiaomi rose for the first time to second place with 17% market share and sales up 83%, according to Canalys.

Apple, in turn, fell to third place, and iPhone sales only saw a 1% increase.

The fourth and fifth positions were occupied by the two Chinese women, Oppo and Vivo, with around 10% market share for each.
