Rapper Nicki Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty face a lawsuit from a woman that Petty was convicted of attempted rape in 1994.
And US media reported that the woman, now 43, had filed a complaint alleging the couple harassed her in an attempt to have her withdraw her complaint.
Beattie had spent four and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to rape the woman, who was then a teenager.
He was arrested last year for failing to register his details in the sex offender registry.
In the lawsuit, filed in US District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the woman alleges that Minaj offered her $ 500,000 through an intermediary in exchange for her charges against Beatty being retracted.
The lawsuit alleges that shortly after Beatty’s arrest in 2020, the broker gave the rapper the woman’s phone number. The lawsuit alleges that Minaj contacted the woman and offered to take her and her family to Los Angeles if she could “help” him.
The lawsuit says the offer was rejected.
The woman also alleges that she refused an offer from Minaj that her press agent write a statement retracting her request.
According to the lawsuit, the woman told Minaj, “I want you to know, as we speak woman to woman, that this has happened.”
The woman also claims that within days of declining the offers, she and her family “suffered” from “a torrent of annoying phone calls and unwanted visits.”
The woman said she had not been able to work since May 2020 “due to severe depression, paranoia and persecution, constant relocations, harassment and threats” from the famous couple and of their assistants.
The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, says the woman is living in hiding for fear of reprisal.
According to US media, the singer’s legal team has yet to respond to the charges.
Minaj and Betty’s relationship started in 2018, and a year later they announced their marriage. They have an 11 month old son.
