Professor of Islamic Law at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, Dr Saad Al-Khathlan, explained the four stages of the Ashura fast.
Al-Khathlan said that the first level is to fast on the ninth, tenth and eleventh days of Muharram, which is the most complete, and the second is to fast on the tenth and ninth, and the third is to fast on the tenth and eleventh, and the fourth is to fast only on the tenth day.
The Sheikh pointed out that the fast of the month of Allah, Muharram, is the best fast after Ramadan, and that the Ashura fast atones for sins and sins for an entire year before that.
He warned of the heresies and superstitions some invent in this holy month, such as throwing parties and funerals and extending to the family, stressing that all of this has no basis in Islam.
