The Saudi Standards and Metrology Authority said it has received several requests from electric vehicle manufacturers to obtain an “model approval certificate for an electric vehicle,” in accordance with the requirements of the technical regulation for electric vehicles, noting that it had issued a certificate approval for a model to date.
In statements to Al-Iqtisadiah newspaper, the authority explained that it was continuing its work to introduce the technical requirements for the granting of certificates of conformity for electric vehicles, chargers and their accessories, and it urges all dealers and automobile manufacturers to comply with obtaining the Saudi certificate. pattern approval certificate.
The specification stated that it was allowed to import electric vehicles and their chargers for commercial purposes, provided that the Saudi model approval certificate was issued for the targeted models before the start of the import process.
She added that she is responsible for issuing the model approval certificate and studying the documents proving the safety and security of vehicles, in accordance with the provisions of the technical regulation for electric vehicles issued by the authority, which clarifies the necessary requirements for vehicles and chargers to meet safety requirements and ensure that they are tested according to specifications set according to the climatic conditions of the Kingdom, and to achieve the best performance for users of electric vehicles and chargers in the Kingdom.
She pointed out that licenses for electric vehicle charging stations and consumer rights in the field of electric vehicle maintenance are the responsibility of a number of relevant authorities, which is outside the remit techniques of the Standardization Authority.
