A woman rescues her five-year-old son from a cougar attack in California.
The animal attacked the little boy while he was playing outside the house in the Calabasas neighborhood in the Santa Monica Mountains, west of Los Angeles.
The puma dragged the child across the lawn, but his mother ran out and hit the animal with her bare hands until her son escaped.
The mountain lion was later found and shot by authorities.
The Associated Press reported the boy sustained head and torso injuries but was in stable condition in a Los Angeles hospital.
California Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Patrick Foy said the mother “definitely saved her baby’s life.”
And it was issued by the authority that one of its employees went to the scene of the accident and found the mountain lion “making a hissing sound with its ears back”.
The official killed al-Assad, suggesting he was the likely culprit “because of his behavior and his proximity to the scene of the attack.” A DNA test later confirmed that it was the same animal that attacked the child.
Cougars are rarely seen in the North America.
Authorities said the animal that carried out the attack was a small animal.
Experts believe he is still learning to hunt and defend himself, according to CBS News.
