The famous Italian airline “Alitalia” will cease to operate completely and cease to exist in mid-October.

Alitalia officially declared bankruptcy at the end of last month, noting that it had stopped selling tickets on its planes on August 25 and that it would continue to operate its flights until October 15, and allowed its customers to modify their reservations before October 14, to guarantee their rights. .

The newspaper “Corriere della Sera” estimates that around 250,000 people have booked to travel in the company’s planes after October 15.

The company reports that there are two options for these customers. They can either exchange the schedule of their Alitalia flights for an earlier date, or obtain a full refund of the amount of the ticket.
The company’s customers can also re-book or change the destination of their original flight, but this is conditioned on a date before October 15, and for the same destination free of charge. If the customer insists on changing the destination of the flight, additional amounts will have to be paid if there is a difference in the price of the tickets, while if the difference is negative and the ticket price is lower, the traveler will not be not compensated. the price difference, and it is also forbidden to change international flights to domestic flights and vice versa.
Alitalia had long suffered from a financial crisis, and had sought investors to save it from bankruptcy since going into public administration in 2017, as its crisis worsened with complications from the Corona pandemic due to the suspension of the global air traffic for several months.

The state-owned ITA will replace Alitalia after its complete shutdown in mid-October, and it will start its flights on October 15, after getting the green light from the Italian civil aviation authorities.
However, customer reservations on “Alitalia” will not be valid for the new company, and new travelers will have to book their tickets through the new “ITA” website or through travel and tourism agencies and offices of the airport.

It was reported that the company “ITA” would buy 52 passenger planes belonging to the bankrupt company “Alitalia” in addition to the facilities and facilities of the airport, and plans to operate flights to New York, Boston, Miami , Tokyo and several other European countries. airports cities of Rome and Milan, and also aspires to gradually expand its fleet to 105 aircraft by 2025.

It should be noted that the company “Alitalia” was founded 74 years ago, during decades that made the pride of Italians for its national character, its services and its fame, but in recent years its suffering has grown. aggravated and it is no longer possible to prolong it further.
