Young Mexican boxer Janet Zacharias Zapata died of injuries sustained during a fight earlier this week in the Canadian city of Montreal.
The company, “Group Yvonne Mitchell”, which promotes boxing, said in a statement via the “Instagram” app, that 18-year-old Zapata died in hospital last Thursday.
Zapata lost her fight against Canadian Mary Pierre Hall, by KO in the fourth round, last Saturday.
Zapata had a seizure, her husband and her trainer rushed over to her, and she received first aid from medical staff before being taken to hospital.
Zapata was placed in an induced coma, but doctors were unable to save her life and she died of her injuries.
Canadian boxer Marie-Pierre expressed her condolences and wrote on her account on the “Instagram” site, that she regretted what had happened.
The fight was against Marie-Pierre, only the sixth Mexican boxer, knowing that she delivered her first fight at the age of 15.
During his short boxing career, Zapata scored two wins and four losses.
