He is watched in the skies of the Arab world after sunset and the onset of night during the month of November, one of the strangest stars known as “Al Ghoul” within the group of stars of Perseus, which can be seen with the naked eye.

“The ghoul” is a name given to this star in the past, as it was linked to the legend of the dreaded monster “Medusa”. According to myths, she is an ugly woman whose hair turns into snakes, and everyone who looks at her immediately turns to stone.

The Jeddah Astronomical Society claims that scientifically, and far from myths and legends, Al-Ghoul is a variable star, which means its luminosity increases and decreases as we observe it.

There are many stars of varying brightness in the sky, but Al Ghul’s star is perhaps the most famous of all.

Ancient sky watchers knew of this star’s change in brightness and called it “The Ghoul” – for its strange behavior in a sky full of fixed stars.

The star “Al Ghul” can be easily observed by looking at the northeast horizon at the present time, and a cluster of stars with Cassiopeia, which looks like the letter (W) or (M) can be used as a guide who determines the location of “the star of Al Ghul”.

In general, this star of the Arab world will see the beginning of the night in the fall on the northeast horizon, and it will shine high in the winter and in the northwest in the spring, all because of the movement of the globe. around the Sun.

The change in brightness of this star can be easily observed, when it is at its maximum brightness, it is three times brighter than when it is low.

The reason for this change in the luminosity of the star Al-Ghul is due to the fact that it is a “binary ecliptic”, a system composed of two stars, one weak and the other bright, in orbit one another. the star has decreased its luminosity.
