Experts: Current assessments of students in Britain will affect their mental health (Getty)
UK government, in light of rising voices from education experts, is looking to change some procedures in the university admissions system, as the Department of Education recently held a meeting on the transition to “post-graduate” admission. system, i.e. accepting students into universities according to procedures and assessments that are not only related not only to academic grades, but also to psychological qualifications and practical experience, amid concerns about the accuracy of the expected scores.
The measures came after Samantha Price, the new president of the Association of Girls’ Schools in the United Kingdom, found that it is customary for a pupil to wait a period of 3 to 6 months, during which he will go through the so-called period of experimental work and technical courses, after finishing school and before entering university, and during this period, students live in anxiety, fearing that their academic grades are not suitable or acceptable for university entry.
Price supports a comprehensive reform of college applications and moves away from the link between college admissions and academic grades.
According to a Times report, some UK education experts believe the system in which students receive offers from universities after getting their grades at A level is unfair and universities should change this system.
“Students are usually accepted after some time out of school, with college starting in January, and they’ve spent what would have been the first semester learning life skills and completing work experience,” said said Price.
“Instead of negotiating expected grades and worrying about whether they will achieve the grade upon which their placement depends, students can focus on their studies and enjoy life-enhancing friendships and extracurricular opportunities throughout their career. final year of study which is just as important to their long-term future, ”adds Price.
According to Price, students can use the fall semester to gain work experience and focus on developing skills in areas such as financial literacy with help from their previous schools before starting their degree course in January.
