The pilots declared an air emergency over Scotland on Thursday morning and were forced to land in the capital, Edinburgh, after the plane struggled at 29,000 feet, 3 miles west of Arbroath on the east coast, to change direction to the west.

It took 20 minutes for the plane to reach Edinburgh, and the plane continued to declare an emergency until it landed and came to rest on the runway, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail” .

The newspaper pointed out that the German national team remained stranded on the plane at the airport 6 hours after landing, waiting to get a replacement plane.

The German Football Association reassured the public, via its official account on Twitter, by insisting on the safety of all on board.

The German national team played against Iceland on Wednesday night in the capital, Reykjavik, to win 4-0.
