The head of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, Engineer Majed Abu Zahira, explained that the description of the giant moon is called the moon, whether in the new moon or the full moon when the distance between the center of the moon and the center of the Earth is 362,146 kilometers away and the scientific name is “Badr al-Hadhid”, which means that the moon reaches the closest point to the Earth.
He added that the giant moon will reach the moment of its completion at 2:14 p.m. Saudi time, and that it will be at a distance of 357,461 kilometers, 9 hours and 24 minutes after arriving at perigee, and this timing will make its apparent size. larger by about 14%, and its illumination is about 30% greater than the giant full moon of April 26, 2021.
Engineer Abu Zahira pointed out that the giant full moon will shine after sunset from the southeast horizon and will be orange in color due to the components of the atmosphere around the earth, which will scatter the white light reflected by the moon, and the colors of the blue spectrum will be scattered, and the colors of the red spectrum will remain, useful only after its ascent and distance from the horizon appears in the usual silvery white.
He stated that the giant full moon is more “attractive” than the perigee moon, and at the same time it gives people the false impression that the giant full moon will appear much larger, but in fact giant moons do not appear. larger than normal moons with the naked eye, although experienced observers can tell the difference.
He explained that the giant full moon will have no effect on the globe except for the two phenomena of the tides, which is a natural thing.Every month on the day of the full moon, the earth, the moon and the sun are regulated, and this causes a wide tide and ebb and flow, indicating that the high tide is exceptionally rising and on the same day it occurs. Low tide is exceptionally low, and because the full moon will be near perigee, the tide will emerge in a phenomenon called high tide perigee.
The director of the Jeddah Astronomical Society said: “Given the limited impact of the giant full moon, it will not affect the internal energy balance of our planet; Because tides occur daily, therefore no increase in geological activity or unusual weather conditions are expected. “
