News and scientific statements continue day after day about the virus that has baffled the world, the latest of which was confirmed by the head of the cell reproduction laboratory at the Engelgaard Institute for Molecular Biology, Peter Chumakov, that the people with colds or acute respiratory viral infections cannot be infected with the Corona virus.
Chumakov, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with the Russian website “ru.ura” that people with colds and acute respiratory viral infections are not likely to be infected with the Corona virus.
However, he clarified, however, that soon after their recovery, they can become infected with the Corona virus, indicating that the disease may proceed more difficult due to the repercussions of the infection with the previous disease.
The Russian scientist reported that a person with one virus cannot be infected with another virus because their body creates interferon, an antiviral protein that protects against a second infection.
Latest global statistics
The Corona virus has killed at least 4,705,691 people around the world since the World Health Organization’s office in China reported the outbreak of the disease in late December 2019.
At least 229,482,830 people have been confirmed to be infected with the virus since its onset. The vast majority of those infected have recovered, although some continued to show symptoms weeks or even months later.
The figures are based on daily reports published by the health authorities in each country and exclude subsequent reviews by statistical agencies which indicate a much higher number of deaths.
The World Health Organization, given the excess mortality directly or indirectly linked to Covid-19, considers that the outcome of the epidemic could be two or three times greater than the officially announced outcome.
Many milder cases or asymptomatic cases go undetected despite intensified testing in a large number of countries.
