“This week, and most of this season, has been extremely traumatic for our players and staff, and I take full responsibility for the role I have played,” said NFL Commissioner Lisa Bird. “I am deeply sorry for the pain that many are feeling. Recognizing this trauma, we have decided not to enter the field this weekend to give everyone a space for reflection. The status quo is not our concern for. Our whole league is undergoing a lot of reform, and the best players deserve much better. We have made this decision in cooperation with the Women’s Players Association and this break will be the first step as we collectively work to change the culture of this league , which is long overdue.
