News 24 | Appeal confirms jail time and fine for owner of notorious Twitter account for defamation and abuse

The Court of Appeal upheld a ruling by the Riyadh Criminal Court to jail and fine the owner of one of the notorious Twitter accounts; for having committed an information offense.

The decision provided for the accused’s imprisonment for 5 days and a fine of 10,000 riyals, for having found him guilty of defamation and abuse through several tweets through his account against a satellite channel.

Sources said, according to “Previously”, that the owner of this channel submitted a statement to the Riyadh Criminal Court regarding the incident, noting that after deliberating sessions of the court, it was proved that the case was true.

She pointed out that the case was included in a video file of a number of abusive tweets, indicating that the decision had been returned to the executing court under its enforcement jurisdiction.
