Dariush Nasebi, director of the Iranian Society of Epilepsy, warned that the crisis of epilepsy in the country is worsening due to lack of drugs for their patients.
"The drugs for epilepsy are very lethal, because patients can not tolerate any crisis for an hour," he said.
"In addition to the lack of drugs for epilepsy, pharmacies and treatment centers are experiencing a shortage of epileptics," he said. "He said.
He pointed out that "changing the type of drug in patients, quickly, is not possible and that, in this case, it requires several months resulting disorders of the patient".
Dr. Nasi explains that in Iran, the rate of people with epilepsy is estimated at 3 to 5% of the total population and that many sufferers hide their disease for cultural and community reasons, making it difficult for establishment of an accurate census.
Iran is experiencing a serious shortage of drugs due to the economic crisis in the country. The media reports that some traders and pharmacies monopolize certain types of drugs in order to sell them sometimes at real prices, in a context of currency collapse.
