Croatian President congratulates Modric on his crown in a golden balloon

Croatian President Kulinda Kitarovic congratulated Lucca Modric for winning the French football magazine prize on Monday.

"On behalf of the Croatian people, I would like to congratulate you," the president told Real Madrid.

"I have become a model for the young people and children of your country and I am convinced that you will continue to work and succeed, Croatia is proud of you and loves you."

Modric is leading the Gold Ball, beating Cristiano Ronaldo (second), Antoine Grazman (third), Kilian Mbabi (fourth) and Lionel Messi (fifth).

Mudrich won the trophy after making a spectacular trip to Croatia at the World Cup and leading him to the final before losing to France 2-4.

Modric also made a spectacular transfer to Real Madrid, contributing to the victory of the Champions League for the third time in a row.
