Vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women exposed to schizophrenia – Al Manar Canal Site – Lebanon

A Danish study found that taking vitamin D supplements during pregnancy can reduce the risk of schizophrenia in children in adulthood.
People born with low vitamin D levels are 44% more likely to develop schizophrenia, Mirror reported.
Because the fetus depends on the mother's vitamin D stock, the results suggest that it is possible to ensure adequate levels of vitamin A in pregnant women to prevent schizophrenia in children, the scientists said.
The study analyzed the concentration of vitamin D in blood samples taken from Danish babies between 1981 and 2000 and compared samples of patients with the disease and other uninfected patients, and indicated that their study, based on an analysis of 2,602 people, confirmed the link between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is linked to a number of genetic and environmental factors, but research suggests that a vitamin D deficiency associated with childbirth may account for about 8% of schizophrenia in Denmark alone.
