Riyadh – Harmony:

Intermittent fasting can help you lose weight, but it has positive health effects, but it is no more effective than the usual diets that limit your calories regularly, according to a new study.

Intermittent fasting, a modern alternative to the usual diet, is based on a few strict rules. The most common is 168: 16 hours of fast followed by 8 hours of normal consumption and 5-2 hours; they normally eat five days a week, followed by two consecutive days in which you do not eat more than 500 calories.

Some previous studies have suggested that intermittent caloric restriction is preferable to constant calorie restriction, positively affecting the metabolic factors that link obesity to major chronic diseases.

Researchers say new findings suggest that intermittent calorie counting may be equal but not better than continuous calorie determination to reduce weight and prevent metabolic diseases, such as type II diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and some cancers .

The randomized controlled trial of 150 overweight and obese 35- to 65-year-old smokers was conducted for 50 weeks by an international team of researchers led by Rot Schwebel of the German Center for Cancer Research and published in the US. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. .
