Former Frenchman Robert Pires does not see his compatriot Zinedine Zidane better than Lionel Messi of Barcelona.
Perez has played alongside Zidane in France for years, during which he has won many tournaments, including the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.
"If he had always played the same performance against Espanyol, no one would have stopped him, it was fantastic," said Perez in an address to Mundo Deportivo, of the Catalan team.
"I played alongside Zidane, Henri, Riquelme, Ronaldinho and Cristiano, but Messi has something that no one else has."
"I do not know if it's the best of history, but there is little at the same level."
