The mistake affected 6.8 million users, 1,500 applications and 876 application developers, said the company, noting that the flaw occurred in September and lasted 12 days.
The company apologized to users for this error and promised to make tools available to developers next week. The applications will allow them to identify the users affected by this error and delete their images.
Facebook said that users affected by this incident would receive notices from the company asking them to clarify the bugs and the procedures to follow.
He also advised users to check the apps in which their photos were shared on Facebook to verify the privacy of the images they could access, the release said.
