South African football federation spokesman Dominique Chimhavi told AFP on Thursday that his country had officially asked to participate in the 2019 Nations Africa Cup in Cameroon.
"We have submitted the required documents and it is up to the African Union to make a decision" on which country will host the 2019 release, Chimhavi said.
South Africa became the second country after Egypt to apply for a host. The door will be closed Friday at 22:00 GMT, the country's identity being revealed on 9 January.
The Egyptian federation said earlier in the day that it had formally submitted its application for the reception the day after Morocco withdrew after press appointments of press releases organizing the tournament for the first time since 1988.
The African Football Confederation (CA) announced on November 30 that Cameroon had withdrawn from Cameroon due to delays in infrastructure and stadium facilities.
