Stuttgart (Reuters) – Stuttgart's father Christian Gintner was about to collapse before his death was announced later on Saturday, the Stuttgart club said.

The Stuttgart spokesman said that Gintner's father had collapsed when he was in the stands during the 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin on Sunday.

"VfB Stuttgart mourns the death of captain Christian Gentner," said VfB Stuttgart in a statement.

"Herbert Gentner died on the pitch after the Stuttgart match with Hertha Berlin."

"The whole club offers support and condolences to the Gintner family in these difficult times."

In the honor of what happened, the Stuttgart players decided not to talk to the media after the match.
