Travelers may be faced with unexpected problems in their destination country, particularly with regard to food, weather conditions, epidemics and the availability of health care facilities, they said. Dr. Maria Fernanda Bonilla, a consultant at the hospital's Institute of Microbiology, emphasized that travelers need to know how to behave properly to cope with various conditions and avoid illness. Travelers are advised to make an appointment six weeks before the trip, but health advice and some vaccines, such as the hepatitis A vaccine, are still possible up to one day.
