Scientists at Yale University have discovered that sugar inhibits the protein activity required for the growth of intestinal flora, which is linked to normal weight and human health.
According to MedicalXpress, intestinal bacteria play a key role in human health and their composition is related to their diet.
Scientists studied the effect of glucose-fructose-rich diets in the beneficial bacterium "Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron" in the intestines of mice and found that sucrose, composed of glucose and fructose, obscured the production of "Roc" or "colonization regulator" proteins required for bacterial colonies. The scientists were able to produce a strain of bacteria that was not inhibited. These bacteria can reproduce even while eating foods rich in carbohydrates.
