"Hippo" approaching the Earth

NASA has captured stunning images showing the curvature of a giant asteroid that approached Earth on Saturday morning, December 22, when 2003 SD220 astronomers called "a hippo crossing the river with difficulty ".

The images show that the length of the asteroid is at least 1.6 km and is relatively slow with a rotation period of about 12 days, such as "worn football".
NASA said the rotation called "non-main axis", which is unusual for near-Earth asteroids.

The asteroid should record the closest flight to the Earth at 2.9 million kilometers to continue its orbit in space and return in 2070 to approach our planet again without any danger real.
