As part of a dramatic discovery that could affect the prices of precious metals in the world, Chinese scientists first learned how to convert cheap copper into gold.
According to the New York Post, the Chinese research team has been able to convert the metallic copper into a new material whose composition is identical to that of gold, using an argon gas electronically charged when hot.
The role of hot argon gas is to use its fast ionizing radiation to infuse copper atoms into metal sheets.
With the cooling of these atoms and the intensification, a thin layer of "sand" is formed. Scientists have observed that each grain of sand does not exceed a few nanometers in diameter, about 1/1000 the size of a germ.
Scientists have used sand to convert coal into alcohol, according to the New York Post, after placing it in a reaction room.
During this process, termed "successful" by scientists, the Chinese have concluded that the performance of the copper nanoparticles that make up the sand material is similar to that of the precious gold metal.
"Copper nanoparticles have produced a catalyst very similar to gold or silver," the scientists involved in the project said in a statement.
"The results have proven … that after treatment, copper can be turned into gold," they added.
The "astonishing discovery" was made by a team of scientists from the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Liaoning, while they were trying to find an "alternative to the science." ;gold". Their findings were published in the journal Science Advances.
