Three research teams have been able to turn brain electrical signals into words using artificial intelligence technology, which will change the lives of many paralyzed people and unable to speak.
"The three research teams converted the electrodes data surgically placed in the brain into a clear and understandable word," Science magazine said.
Using mathematical models known as neural networks, researchers reconstructed words and sentences that in some cases were clear to listeners.
People who have lost the ability to speak after a stroke or illness can now use their eyes or other small movements to control the cursor or choose the letters on the screen. Among them, the physicist Stephen Hawking, who spent the last 30 years of his life speechless, was able to communicate with the world via an auxiliary computer.
We now think that if a computer interface with the brain could directly recreate their speech, they could regain the ability to control the tone and change the tone.
