That's why Swedish scientists have invented a micro-needle allowing diabetics to pass blood glucose tests all day without pain.
Continuous blood glucose monitoring helps control the disease and prevents any significant increase in blood glucose.
According to Reuters, household sugar testers use a needle at least 7 mm thick to be used in adipose tissue and not in any position of the body.
The needle, developed at the Royal Institute of Technology, is 50 times smaller than the needle used in commonly used domestic sugar testing machines, called CGMS.
Innovation is not limited to the needle: when the new scanning device is placed on the human arm, a tripolar enzyme sensor correctly monitors glucose levels.
The research team has completed testing of the new screening device in humans and will soon be going to clinical trials.
