Washington – US astronomers have discovered a new planet twice as big as Earth that could be good for human life.
Researchers from the University of Villanova have discovered a planet around the star Bernard, a star at the cold mass of the so-called red dwarf. The star is about six light years from the solar system, which is relatively close to astronomical standards.
The planet is thought to be a "Giant Earth", which represents a class of planets larger than Earth but smaller than massive gaseous planets.
The ESA said the detected planet was cooler than Earth, but scientists believe it could be suitable for human life.
Scientists have dubbed the planet "Bernard Star B" or "supernatural earth", 2.3 times heavier than the Earth.
It was discovered with the help of a Harps telescope, especially used when searching for planets.
